  1. Cattle:
    • All breeds and cross breeds
    • Bulls, heifers and steers
    • Age, class A and AB at slaughter
  1. Transport to and from the feedlot:
    • In compliance with the SANS 1488 – Humane Transportation of Livestock by Road
  1. Pre-treatment:
    • Backgrounded or directly received at feedlot
    • Individually identified back to purchase
    • Vaccinated and treated according to prescription
    • Only products registered in terms of Act 36 or Act 101 to be administered
  1. Nutrition:
    • Feeds formulated in accordance with recognized standards by a Registered Nutritionist
    • 70% grain or grain by-products included
    • No animal by-products (i.e. Carcass meal, bone meal, blood meal, tallow or poultry litter) nor products classified as not fit for animal consumption
    • Antibiotics and growth promotants withdrawn according to prescription
  1. Feedlot Production:
    • In accordance with the SAFA Code for Feedlots
    • Minimum of 70 days on feed
  1. Abattoir
    • Slaughtered at an abattoir registered in terms of section 8(1) of the Meat Safety Act (Act 40 of 2000)
    • Independent Meat Inspection service
    • Only carcasses classified according to the Agricultural Products Standards Act (Act 119 of 1990)
    • Minimum abattoir Hygiene Assessment Score of 75%
  1. Carcasses
    • Only classes A and AB qualify
    • White fat
    • Bruising maximum Code 1
    • No measly carcases
    • pH tested lower than 6 before dispatch
